Anger spurted into Connor’s veins, his wolf ready to leap free. “Is she still alive?” he asked, hoarsely.

After a moment, Beth looked up and nodded. “I can take care of her. Go.”

He swallowed, trying to control himself. “I can’t leave you here.”

“You have to,” she said, reaching to grasp his hand. “Stephen was here, and we don’t know what he’s done with Thomas. Go and find him. I’ll take care of her here.”

It only took a second or two for him to make a decision. "There are light bulbs in the drawer in the kitchen," he said, getting to his feet. "Be safe, Beth."
